Collins Solicitors’ Update on the Contaminated Blood Products Group Litigation and Additional Payments

The Contaminated Blood Products Group Litigation (‘Group Action’), to be heard at The High Court of Justice, Queen’s Bench Division, remains stayed until May 2020.

Collins Solicitors represents over 500 clients in relation to this case and is in the process of updating the Group Register in advance of May 2020. It is still possible to register for inclusion in this Group Action, please email: collins@collinslaw.co.uk

Meanwhile Collins Solicitors is aware of a number of discussions regarding the possibility of additional payment provision to those infected or affected by the contaminated blood scandal. This issue was conveniently summarised, and brought up to date, by Caroline Wheeler in the Sunday Times on Sunday 16th November, 2019.

As far as Collins Solicitors is aware the Inquiry’s position remains as set out by the Chair in his closing address on 1st November, 2019.

Des Collins, Senior Partner of Collins Solicitors, comments:

“For all practical purposes it is now unlikely that any further progress will be made in relation to additional payments until the new administration is in place following the General Election on 12th December, 2019.

Meanwhile, we will continue to review the position on such payments and canvas the views of our clients before moving forward.

The Group Action, although currently stayed, must remain in place and we suspect that this will be the position until such time as the Inquiry produces its final report.”
