The Government has announced plans to reduce fees for cases going through the RTA portal to £500 per case. The portal applies to cases where liability is admitted and will soon apply to cases worth up to £25,000. The government also plans to extend the portal to employment and public liability claims, which can involve more complex issues than the average road traffic claim. There is a real danger that many small and medium cases will be undervalued, run by under-qualified, pressurised staff whose main objective will be to process a case as quickly as possible. In the end, the worry is that justice for those injured by the negligence of others will take a back seat to a desperate attempt to achieve profitability.
